Birds

I’ve decided that the Nahul word for ‘crow’ is surakh, which also meant deciding that this world has crows in the first place. (Now that that’s settled, I need to know a word for ‘crow’ in Beldreeni as well, because I can’t picture crows only existing on the one continent!)

This makes me wonder – what bird words have you come up with in your languages? Whether it’s the word for ‘bird’, for specific species or types of birds, or other bird-related words. Are the species invented, too? Anything else you feel like sharing about birds in your languages, or in your worldbuilding?

(I think this is the first time I start a new post. Not sure how to tag it – suggestions welcome!)

On Traipah, there is a creature like a cross between a crocodile and a bird, called a ny'ah'lah. Their version of a Phoenix is called fii'ah'zohl'ah. That's all I can remember.

I have a few fairy languishes I might need bird words for, though. I think at least one of them, the word for crow should be kakkaw. I know the ancient Egyptian word for cat was miau. :)

Oh wow, that's so cool!
How are these words inflected for plurals (if they have plurals)? Do they have definiteness or case? Do they have grammatical gender?
I love the word kakkaw for crow.

Trai'Pahg'Nan'Nog has a prefix that makes things plural. " Da- " So da-ny'ah'lah is the plural.
